Road trip to Romania

In the end of August we made a quick roadtrip from Budapest to Kolozsvár (Cluj-Napoca). We crossed border in Carei. The main point of trip was not to visit radio stations, but in Cluj there was a big market with two radio related tents. In Jászberény we tried to see old short wave antennas, but the weather was unfortunately too cloudy.

A roadtrip is always a good possibility to tune foreign radio stations. Between Budapest and Szolnok we listened mainly Radio Vlna from Slovakia and in Nyíregyháza some Ukrainian stations were audible. Rest of the time I monitored local stations, like Diórádio (Gyöngyös 101.7), Trio Rádio (Jászberény 97.7), Aktív Rádio (Szolnok 92.2) and Karcag FM (Karcag 88.0), just to get idea which stations try to catch during Sporadic E conditions. On our way back we got even some Sporadic E reception, when Radio Vlna faded out in a valley and French station replaced it (105.1). Very same program was audible on 105.5, so I suspect it was France Info while strong ES conditions were going on in Central Europe based on DX-maps information. Nice surprise!!

Paprika Rádió 95.1 is Hungarian language radio station in Kolozsvár (Cluj). At that moment they transmitted only carrier, probably for some live transmission tests were going on!

Bonus: Hungarian webradio Radio Pro had huge advertisement in Sziget festival.
